# VxScan Setup ## Hardware Overview **VxScan's** scanner comes in a tamper-evident case and the ballot box is collapsed.

## VxScan Setup \ **VxScan** can be set up through the following steps: 1. **Set up the ballot box:** * [ ] open the velcro on the top and bottom of each side

open the velro on the top and bottom of each side

* [ ] pull the box open * [ ] the bottom will typically fall flat on its own. If not, use the yellow strap to lay the bottom flat * [ ] secure the bottom using the latches on each side of the bottom frame * [ ] pull the other yellow strap to bring the locking arm down

* [ ] pull the top up * [ ] secure the top by pushing the locking arm back up. The locking arm will not sit fully flush to the side wall. * [ ] check the top surface of the ballot box and ensure that the side panels are properly interfacing with the top panel * [ ] seal or lock the ballot bin as required

## 2\. **Set up the scanner:** * [ ] place the case on top of the ballot box by lining up the bottom metal plate with the metal plate on the ballot box and slide the case back to secure in place.

* [ ] latch the case to the ballot box from the backside of the case * [ ] seal the latch and document as required * [ ] remove and document the case seal(s) * [ ] push the button to release and open each latch and open the lid

* [ ] remove the power cord from it's storage place * [ ] plug it into the back of the case and into an outlet or UPS power backup

* [ ] plug UPS power backup into an outlet (if applicable) * [ ] turn the UPS power backup on {% hint style="warning" %} Once assembled, be sure to place the VxScan in an area of the room that allows for voter privacy as voted ballots are inserted into the scanner. {% endhint %}
