Export Results

Election Manager exports SEMS-ready results files that can be combined with GEMS-exported results.

Export VotingWorks Results

To export VotingWorks results, scroll to the Export Options section and click Export Results File. This will open a file dialog to save the file to the USB drive alongside GEMS exported results. The default file name is sems-results.csv. VotingWorks recommends appending YYYYMMDD-vw-to the filename to clearly identify the export date of the file and that they are VotingWorks results. As an example, the full file name may be 20201103-vw-sems-results.csv.

Combine VotingWorks and GEMS Results

This step applies only if you are utilizing TSX machines for in-person voting alongside VotingWorks Paper for absentee ballots.

You will first need to save your in-precinct TSX results files from GEMS to a USB drive. VotingWorks recommends saving your GEMS results and VotingWorks results to the same USB drive.

After exporting VotingWorks results, navigate to Results Management and click Combine Results Files which will open the Combine Results Files view.

Before combining results, ensure that you have saved VotingWorks results and GEMS results available on a USB drive. You will save the combined files to a USB drive as well.

From this view, click Results File #1 and open the VotingWorks-exported results file. Click Results File #2 and open the GEMS-exported results file.

Load Results Files

When loaded, the combine results screen will show Loaded [file-name].csv.

Loaded Results Files

To combine files, click Combine and save the combined file to your USB drive. The default file name is combined-results.csv. VotingWorks recommends appending the date YYYYMMDD-vw-to the filename to clearly identify the export date of the file. As an example, the full file name may be 20201103-combined-results.csv.

These exported results are now ready to upload to SEMS for final reporting. To finish, click Eject USB and remove the USB drive.

Upload to SEMS

To upload to SEMS, connect the USB drive with exported results and attach the drive to a computer connected to SEMS. Once connected, you will need to copy the results file to your local computer drive as SEMS does not recognize attached drives. You can launch SEMS after you have copied the combined-results.csv file to your computer.

In SEMS, navigate to the Election Management view for the corresponding election and click Election Results in the left navigation. From the results view, click Import Results and then browse to the combined-results.csv file on your computer from the subsequent import dialog. Close the import dialog once finished importing.

Your election results should now be presented to you in SEMS. If results are not immediately presented, click the Refresh Wizard Statusin the bottom left of the screen. You should see results after refreshing.
